OpenAI releases GPT-6.1 Sol at a fraction of GPT-6 Astra's price

OpenAI says GPT-6.1 Sol nearly matches GPT-6 Astra on agentic coding and professional work at one-fifth of the standard token prices.

OpenAI introduced GPT-6.1 Sol on September 29, 2026, as an upgrade to GPT-6 Sol.

What to know

  • It is available to ChatGPT Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise and Edu users in ChatGPT Work and Codex, and to developers through the API as gpt-6.1-sol.
  • OpenAI says it comes close to GPT-6 Astra on agentic coding, computer use and professional work, at about one-fifth of Astra’s standard input and output token prices.
  • Cached input is priced at $0.10 per million tokens, according to OpenAI.

Why it matters

The headline is cost-performance: near-flagship results at a much lower price can change which model teams choose for everyday agent work. These figures are OpenAI’s own; independent benchmarks will tell more.
