Both tools turn text into images, but they feel different. Midjourney leans toward a rich, artistic result; GPT Image leans toward doing what the sentence says.
DALL-E, which this comparison used to cover, was removed from OpenAI’s API on May 12, 2026. OpenAI’s current image models are GPT Image 2 and ChatGPT Images 2.5. See DALL-E for what changed.
How we compare them
The table summarises each maker’s own description of its current model. The best test is your own project: write one prompt, run it in both, and see which result is closer to what you pictured.
Try the same prompt in both
Use a prompt such as “a lighthouse on a rocky coast at blue hour, long exposure, soft sea haze”. In Midjourney, add --ar 3:2. In ChatGPT, write it as a sentence and say the aspect ratio you want.
